As a couples therapist, relational and complex trauma will inevitably show up in our therapy room. Perhaps historically we believed this trauma work would be best treated individually or hoped that individual therapy would ensure relational healing. However, what we know now is that relational trauma requires relational healing.

This training provides clinicians with a framework and tools to address trauma within the context of couples therapy. When providers can gain an understanding of how trauma- including childhood trauma or relational betrayals- affects couples, they are more prepared to address the underlying issues instead of getting stuck treating symptoms. In this training, we will integrate trauma-informed practices, attachment theory, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions to help couples heal together.

    Learning Objectives:

    1. View the couple's dynamic through a trauma informed lens.
    2. Utilize trauma informed history taking to create solid case conceptualization.
    3. Develop interventions to increase a couple's window of tolerance and access to relational resources to improve couples therapy outcomes
