Learning Objectives

  1. Review the specific ethical responsibilities of marriage and family therapists to decrease the risk of destruction, damage, hurt and injury to ensure the best interest of clients, professional behavior, and the profession. 
  2. Understand the difference between ethical and legal issues in counseling.
  3. Identify at least 3 common (and hopefully not so common) ethical challenges faced by marriage and family therapists.
  4. Verbalize ethical considerations surrounding AI and Marriage and Family Therapy. 
  5. Describe the challenges and importance of boundary management as an ethical issue.
  6. Compare at least 2 ethical decision-making models.
  7. Apply the steps of an ethical decision-making model to sample scenarios.
