February Message

Hello, Everyone-

I have been reflecting on the value of community lately, in my professional and personal life. I walk with a group, I belong to a community organization that offers shared goals, I have participated in professional consultation groups – and, as for all of you, experienced VAMFT as a professional “home,” where everyone speaks our shared systemic language. This has been especially evident with our community recently: at the trainings and Palaver, I enjoyed the shared experience of “shop talk” – collaborative learning, and, by the way, being the student of a former student at our recent webinar! Short analysis: community helps us. It affords a sense of belonging, of shared experience, the safety of familiarity: safe harbor!

January Message

Hello and Happy New Year, Everyone-

I am pleased to be working with the VAMFT Board once again. First, much appreciation and gratitude to Wally Scott, our Past-President, for his service, knowledge, grace and humor; he continues to offer the Board invaluable guidance during this transition. Laurie Wilson, our new Executive Director, is a force of nature, a combination of idealist, pragmatist and consummate administrator; and we all are benefiting from the depth and breadth of Arnold Woodruff’s experience, as he continues his work as Treasurer and advocate. We have a Board avidly interested in working with Virginia MFT’s and associated practitioners – they are motivated toward growth, participation and the investment of their time...
